I've met some amazing people this week, and the week before that. Really, every week since I decided to quit my job I've been amazed at the wonderful people that have come into my life. For those I've gotten to connect with, I'm so grateful for the way we've been able to contribute to each other, so often just within a 1 hr zoom call. And then there are a few I haven't met but who through courses or other material have become a significant factor in my growth this fall.

So I thought this week I would share a list of people I'm so grateful to be learning from in this intense transition into self employment and entrepreneurship. I have been amazed to take away something significant from every single connection or coffee chat, but this...

Here is some of what I'm up to, and what I recommend for you to try this week:

  1. Testing the Upper Limit - I recently read The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks and I'm fascinated with his idea that we all have an upper limit to our current capacity for happiness. If you feel every time you get a certain level of success, that you sabotage yourself in some way, then this book is a must-read. For me I believe it's really helping me walk out this transition where I'm switching from feeling stuck to being free, but I'm so happy about my new season that I keep wondering if I'm allowed to be this happy, and then I get afraid it won't work and then I'm not as happy and I'm more comfortable. Anyway, I'm walking out fighting that cycle and I think I'm doing well mentally but I am...

Try this Tip to Breath Life Into Your Content Strategy

strategy Sep 25, 2018

One of my favorite things about google analytics and looking at traffic reports is that it can help us so much with our content strategy. And one concept that has been helpful for several of my clients is the idea of becoming an advocate.

This summer I had the pleasure of working with Katie Nohl of Mission Springs Resort. Her family owns this small group of cottages that has been in the family for nearly a century and has been rented out to individuals for recreational purposes for decades. It's like their own personal mini-Airbnb in northern Wisconsin.

She considers local hotels to be her main competition, and her primary goal is to drive more of her traffic directly in order to pay less money to referring portal websites. So we talked quite a bit about content strategy, and topics for her blog, Facebook, and Instagram.

And I loved the way that she didn't see herself in competition with other local property owners, but rather as part of the same movement. In brainstorming her...

Here is some of what I'm up to, and what I recommend for you to try this week:

Hey there!

It's Monday! Are you excited? Monday has taken on a whole new sense of excitement and potential for me, so I decided to move my newsletter day to Monday. I hope I can help equip and motivate you in a few small ways for whatever you're up to in your business this week.

Quick question: would you like a free tool that will make your analytics account talk to you in plain English? That was what I was aiming for with my new freebie.

I've created a free custom dashboard and mini email course as my first opt-in and of course I want you to be the first to have it. If you worked with me this summer I tried to add it to your account already, but it will only show if you gave me Collaborate...

Hey friend,

What are you up to? I know several of you are at a conference, and some of you are riding out the hurricane, and others are settling into the routine of the school year starting.

Well I am doing none of the above. The hurricane kept me from attending the conference, keeping me from traveling but not hitting my city. It also got my kids out of school for the entire week, so routine is not back yet. However, I have a strange sense of peace and gratitude about the entire week, tainted only by my concern for friends currently riding out this crazy hurricane.

I am happier about quitting my job and being on this biz-entrepreneur journey with you, than I am sad about missing the conference - disappointing as that is, or worried about the hurricane when it was...

I am so pumped up! It's the day I've been working toward for over a year, it was the last day at my job. I'm entering a new season and I don't know if there's anything quite like a new season when that is what you need. It's reminding me of when I moved across the country for school, and to follow my now-husband, and when I quit my daycare job to be a Research Assistant while I got my Masters degree, and like when I got married and we moved into our new place together.

Some experiences just become watershed moments where your life is fundamentally better because it's more aligned who you are, and so you're happier and the grass really is greener because you're in the right place for you to be.

Anyway, that is where I am and my hope for you is that you are able to be...

My About Page from 2017 and 61 Fun Facts About Me

Uncategorized Aug 06, 2018

I'm updating my blog and pivoting my content a bit. So I'm rewriting my about page, but I thought it'd be fun to save the old version as a post:

Hi! My name is Alicia and I help moms find their energy for life and motherhood. Let me tell you a little bit about how I got here.

In 2009 I had been reading and writing constantly for 7 years in biblical studies programs when I graduated with my masters degree. That summer my husband and I decided to start having kids and I spent the following 8 years having and raising four fun little boys. Now I'm rekindling my love of writing and combining it with my professional skills of websites and marketing.

To hear my vision for this blog check out my vision for you. But basically I spent the last 8 years as a stay at home mom with a part time web and marketing job I could do from home, trying to juggle everything and generally finding balance only to start over with the next kid. Along the way I learned from all the wonderful moms I've met from...

What I'm Reading, and Becoming Your Best Self

books my journey Jul 27, 2018

I just finished the first phase of a period of reading that I know I will look back to as a turning point, and my biggest takeaway from my recent reading is that who I am becoming matters.

And it doesn't just matter, it is the preeminent factor, the primary guiding goal. As I've been reading about success these authors argue that you must focus on becoming the kind of person who has the kind of success you want to have.

I found this challenging yet slightly comforting. Somehow the focus on becoming the person I need to be feels incredibly actionable, understandable, and therefore attainable. Perhaps because it is a factor I can control. I can decide who I will become. I can decide to establish habits to make me the kind of person I want to be.

I'm trying to nail down in my memory who said what. I just read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone. In both of these...

How to Seek Clarity and Find Your Best Self (High Performance Habit #1)

This post has affiliate links. I am grateful for your support. Learn more here.

Did you know that you could be a high performer? That phrase might sound a little strange as a mom. It immediately makes me think of high performance level athletes, which is so far from where my life is right now. I would never have picked up this book off the shelf, but fortunately last year I started following Marie Forleo and I saw her interview with Brendon Burchard about his most recent book, High Performance Habits, and was immediately intrigued.

What I quickly discovered was that I am a high performer, at least at heart, and that the habits he identified could help me be successful at whatever I cared to do.

When he says high performance, he's talking about how to leave mediocrity behind, stop settling for average, and maximize your personal potential as a human to effective and productive in a way that keeps you happy and fulfilled over the short and the long term.

That's exactly what...
