My Favorite Books I Read in 2018

books Dec 04, 2018

Ok, so this is just going to be a long list, including the books I'm currently working on. And it started as a list of my favorite books and became a list of all the books I read this year.

I want to challenge you to be intentional about finding some books that will help you grow in your thinking, and then find time every week to read and then to journal about what you're learning.

To highlight a few, I've bolded the ones that I think you should go buy right now.

When you get serious about becoming the person that your big dreams need you to be, finding the right next book to read will become your new favorite thing.

I used to be a big Black Friday shopper, but all I bought this year was Ego is the Enemy, because I want to navigate that tension between fear and pride and find that steady, confident service-oriented space in the middle; and the paper version of The Big Leap, to make it easier to do a series of Facebook live videos about it, because his concepts have changed my...

What I'm Reading, and Becoming Your Best Self

I just finished the first phase of a period of reading that I know I will look back to as a turning point, and my biggest takeaway from my recent reading is that who I am becoming matters.

And it doesn't just matter, it is the preeminent factor, the primary guiding goal. As I've been reading about success these authors argue that you must focus on becoming the kind of person who has the kind of success you want to have.

I found this challenging yet slightly comforting. Somehow the focus on becoming the person I need to be feels incredibly actionable, understandable, and therefore attainable. Perhaps because it is a factor I can control. I can decide who I will become. I can decide to establish habits to make me the kind of person I want to be.

I'm trying to nail down in my memory who said what. I just read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone. In both of these...

books leadership mindset Jun 14, 2018

I share about how I discovered the biggest online voices that have had a big influence on me over the past year.

"Learning is fun, but it's also easy - and the hard work is where the payoff is."

I want to challenge you to really think about the biggest 5 voices or influences in your life, and how you can improve the net message you get from them by adding some strategic online voices.

A few of my favorites are Marie Forleo, Tony Robbins, Brendon Burchard, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

Has Anyone Asked You How You Want to Feel?

books Apr 09, 2018

Last week I finished reading The Desire Map, by Danielle LaPorte. It rocked my world. Her premise is that identifying your core desired feelings, and then using them to guide you will help you find the life that you truly want.

A few pages into the book I knew I had found the next piece that I needed. And yet several days after finishing it I am still a bit stumped by the question, "how do I want to feel?" Equally hard is "what do I want?"

Between years of school being the dutiful student, and then subsequent to that years of being the dutiful mother, I know feel that I have doubly suppressed my feelings, my desire and my identity.

And so I am both intrigued and perplexed.

In talking about desire, she speaks to the inherent balance necessary: "Want it with all your heart. But don't get attached to getting it."

Useful and yet confusing at the same time. But I suspect current balance for me will be found by adding a healthy dose of desire and self awareness.

I've been doing quite a...
