12 Things I Learned from My Husband's Unemployment

my journey Feb 19, 2019

Of course there is more, but here is what stands out to me right now:

My kids need me - During this season I've been gone 9-6 and I can tell that they need to see more of me. I'm grateful to be able to switch back roles from primary breadwinner to part time working my business. I knew what I was doing was for our family and the kids but it was interesting to see how quickly it began to wear on them and how much better it is for the little guys for me to work from home and be present.

I don't like being an employee anymore - Working so many hours for one client for the past month pulled on my brain toward an employee mindset. I was able to work and function as a consultant and provide value from an outside perspective, but I could still feel the pull back to my old employee mindset, even in the just the lack of urgency and time to find new clients. And while I enjoyed the work, I had that feeling that it was starting to pull me away from my path.

I love doing consulting - It's my...

Reflections on losing a job, and rewriting our story

my journey reflection Jan 09, 2019

Charles was let go due to downsizing last week. It was really unexpected and a lot to process over the weekend. But we're emerging with one dominant thought: this is our opportunity to rewrite our story.

He and I have had a theory for awhile that people have stories that they tell themselves about their life. These are usually created subconsciously as we grow up and experience the world. Every adult has a story they're living that was created based on their past experiences. And we believe it and live it out dutifully until something changes it. I believe anyone can choose to change their story and embrace the power of doing so to reinvent their life. It all starts with changing your thinking. What you think determines how you feel, and your thoughts and emotions create your inner reality, which you then produce as your external reality.

I read a book over the holidays by Dr. Caroline Leaf, called Who Switched Off My Brain? The title doesn't do justice to the book. In it she...

8 Things I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me Last Year

leadership my journey Dec 07, 2018

I spent a year investing too much time, money and energy trying to figure out this whole online biz world, and then everything I had learned finally clicked, and I quit my job and replaced my income within 90 days.

In reflecting on everything I've learned through this experience, I came up with a list of things that I would tell a close friend right now if they asked me what I've learned that could help them.

What I hope to do here is share some wisdom to anyone who is where I was last year, or anyone who feels overwhelmed by all the options and pitches they see everywhere for courses and programs about marketing and online business. I'm telling you now because I wish someone would have been honest and told me these truths about online business a year ago.

I want to save you some time, give you some hope, and probably get some interesting conversations going.

Okay, here are 8 things I wish someone could have told me last year:

1. People who need to...

My New Course, Marketing Mindset, is Here!

marketing my journey Nov 26, 2018

This is the email I sent to my list today.

Hey there,

What are you working on this week?

I hope it's something big.

Do you have a project scheduled to make progress on this week, that will change your life when you finish it? I know some of you do.

Of my current coaching clients, one of them just finished creating her course, another is preparing to shoot videos for his course, another decided to prepare to launch a membership, and another is preparing to offer online fitness courses.

Taking on this kind of project takes a lot of courage. I know, because I just finished the initial version of my first full online course, Marketing Mindset.

I believe that every one of you has the potential to change your life in a few hours a week. And it takes two things to get there.

First, you've got to do the work to change the way you think. (Psst. This is what my new course will help you with)

You need to get really clear on why you do what you do, and clarify your mission. When you know what...

An Invitation to Work with Me

leadership my journey Nov 12, 2018

This is the letter I wrote to my newsletter list today.

Hey beautiful,

Have you ever felt yourself searching intently for your next step and then found that once you slowed down enough to just listen, it was right in front of you?

That's what I've been up to. Everything I shared a couple of weeks ago is still on my heart and in my plan. I will be starting a leadership book club sooner rather than later.

But right now it's time to go deep with a few of you.

I looked at where my life has led me and what I've learned along the way. And everything came together for me last week.

It all fell apart first because I almost launched the wrong thing.

But then I recognized the opportunity of this moment, and realized the right thing for us in this season, and that it will totally transform your life.

So I just found my full life mission, I lived through the turning point last week that  my entire life has been leading up to. And what came...

20 Affirmations I Wrote Down at Expert's Academy

leadership my journey Nov 05, 2018

On Oct 24, 2018 I flew to California for 4 days of marketing and thought leader training at Expert's Academy. It was a transformative, landmark experience for me. Here are 20 affirmations I wrote down throughout the many seminar notes I took about everything from sharing your story to creating email funnels and recording sales videos.

1. This is my time.

2. I'm ready to be Me. Fully. Alive.

3. I choose to see beyond my current circumstances.

4. I will weather the storms, internal opposition, external opposition. Bring it. I'm committed.

5. I'm going to start giving myself credit for my experiences and ability to provide value.

6. I am someone people love to be around. My presence empowers people to be themselves, joyfully and courageously.

7. When I help other people find their greatness, I'll find my greatness.

8. I'm doing this with excellence, not perfection

9. I can do this.

10. I'm ready to go all in, and serve people with everything I've got.

11. The universe...

I've met some amazing people this week, and the week before that. Really, every week since I decided to quit my job I've been amazed at the wonderful people that have come into my life. For those I've gotten to connect with, I'm so grateful for the way we've been able to contribute to each other, so often just within a 1 hr zoom call. And then there are a few I haven't met but who through courses or other material have become a significant factor in my growth this fall.

So I thought this week I would share a list of people I'm so grateful to be learning from in this intense transition into self employment and entrepreneurship. I have been amazed to take away something significant from every single connection or coffee chat, but this...

What I'm Reading, and Becoming Your Best Self

books my journey Jul 27, 2018

This post has affiliate links. I am grateful for your support. Learn more here.

I just finished the first phase of a period of reading that I know I will look back to as a turning point, and my biggest takeaway from my recent reading is that who I am becoming matters.

And it doesn't just matter, it is the preeminent factor, the primary guiding goal. As I've been reading about success these authors argue that you must focus on becoming the kind of person who has the kind of success you want to have.

I found this challenging yet slightly comforting. Somehow the focus on becoming the person I need to be feels incredibly actionable, understandable, and therefore attainable. Perhaps because it is a factor I can control. I can decide who I will become. I can decide to establish habits to make me the kind of person I want to be.

I'm trying to nail down in my memory who said what. I just read The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone. In both of these...

My Struggle to Niche Down, Provide You Value, and Be Authentically Me

my journey Jul 21, 2018

I want to get back into doing some blog writing, and especially some of that is not all seo optimized, but just what's going on right now.

I'm really into the concept of self-awareness right now. Of course if you've been following me, you know that's not really a new development, more of a recurring theme.

I've come an incredible way with my mindset, my perspective and my attitude about life. My ability to have motivation for all the routine daily tasks has skyrocketed. I've more joyful, patient and confident about everything.

And I've gotten far enough into this journey that I'm thinking again about how to catch you up, and then how to do a better job of sharing along the way, so that hopefully as I get from where I was to where I'm going, I can hopefully help many of you began to make the same journey - whether only with your mindset, or also with your time management, finances, life balance etc.

My single biggest struggle has been the effort to niche-down. I keep hearing it is...

How to Just Keep Going

my journey Jul 13, 2018

The way to keep going forward, is to just keep. going. forward.

I lost my makeup on our road trip, we're all still on a different time zone, and I couldn't figure out how to edit my video that was scheduled for today.

So instead here is encouragement to Just Keep Going.
